Headroom is the point

Most people undersize their first controller and end up replacing it when the array grows. If you are at 400W now but expect to add a panel, buying the 45A unit rather than the 35A saves you doing this twice. The controller only draws what the panels produce, so there is no penalty for having spare capacity.

The 150V input ceiling means you can wire panels in series, which keeps current low on the run from roof to controller — thinner cable, less voltage drop, fewer problems on a long run through a van.
