GSI Santoku Paring Knife — 4 in.
$12.95
A proper 4-inch paring knife with a sheath. Thirteen dollars.
A 4 in. stainless steel paring knife with a protective sheath and a grippy moulded handle.
A real paring knife is the knife a camp kitchen is actually missing. People pack a big chef's knife and then spend the trip trying to core a tomato or peel garlic with it. Four inches does the small work properly.
The sheath is the part that matters outdoors. GSI: it "ensures safe handling and preserves blade's sharpness." A loose knife in a camp box is a cut hand and a blunt blade.
GSI do not publish a blade steel grade for their knives — their specification says only "Stainless Steel". We are not going to invent one.
Dry it properly. GSI's own warning: "Blades may corrode if left immersed in water." Wash, dry, sheath. That is the whole maintenance routine.
Pairs with the 6 in. Santoku chef knife. Both together, plus a bread knife and a board, are in the Santoku Knife Set.
