GSI Pioneer Enamel Pint — 17 fl oz, Blue
$10.95
A 17 oz enamel pint with a stainless rim. The proper camp beer glass.
A 17 fl oz enamelware pint in speckled blue, with a stainless steel rim. 3.4 x 3.4 x 5.3 in.
Seventeen ounces is a full pint with room above it — a real pint glass rather than a mug pretending to be one.
What the stainless rim is for. GSI do not explain it on their own page, so here is the plain version: enamel is glass, and the edge is where glass chips. A rolled stainless steel rim puts metal on the part that takes the knocks. That is the difference between this and the plain enamel version, and it is why it costs a little more.
Enamelware is glass fused onto heavy-gauge steel. It is the oldest camp tableware there is and it is still around because nothing else looks better, cleans easier or survives longer. It will not melt near a fire, will not scratch from cutlery and does not hold flavours.
It works just as well for coffee in the morning and whisky at night, and unlike a glass pint it survives being knocked off a camp table.
Hand wash with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
