Espresso that travels. GSI rate the body at 9.5 fl oz and describe it as four double-shot servings of 2 fl oz, ready in minutes. It comes as a set: espresso body, double-wall cup, filter funnel, gasket, spout assembly and a foam case to keep it all together and unbroken in a pack. 6.4 x 4.6 x 8.8 inches, about 1 lb 7 oz. Stainless steel and nylon.

The double-wall cup is the part that makes it a set rather than a pot — espresso out of a thin camp mug is lukewarm by the second sip, and this one is not.

This is a pressure vessel — read this part

A moka-style brewer builds real steam pressure, and GSI's safety wording here is the strongest on any product they make. Do not use it if the safety valve or the threads leak. Never block, modify or tamper with the safety valve. Do not fill above the valve. Do not pack the coffee into the filter funnel. Check the funnel, filter plate, gasket and valve for damage or blockage before every use, and make sure every part is present and correctly assembled. Point the spout and the valve away from yourself and away from the stove controls while it brews. Let it cool before cleaning or disassembling, and never cool it quickly.

Use over low heat only. Not for microwave or campfire use — GSI are explicit about both.

One step people skip: wash every part in hot water before first use, then run it once with no coffee in it. That flushes out manufacturing debris and metal filings. GSI ask for it and it takes five minutes.

GSI do not state induction for this one, though they do for the Moka Espresso Pot. If you are cooking on induction, the Moka is the safer buy.

Care

Hand wash with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly; avoid abrasive cleaners. GSI do not list any of their coffee gear as dishwasher safe, and several pages warn that dishwashers may age components early. Hand wash it.
