The extension is the whole reason to buy this one. GoGirl's words: it "provides extra clearance allowing you to pee further from yourself or go into a bottle."

Six inches of clearance is what makes this work through bulky clothing. GoGirl specifically recommend the extension for hunting gear and snow pants — the layers that physically will not get out of the way. Without it, heavy clothing is the thing that defeats a funnel.

The bottle option is the other half. GoGirl list it for long road trips, truck drivers, firefighters, military, snowmobilers and cross-country skiers — anywhere you cannot step outside at all.

What it is actually for. It is not about modesty. It is about not having to take anything off. A climbing harness, waders, snow pants, a hunting layer, a tool belt — every one of those turns a thirty-second stop into a five-minute production, and that is before the weather. It is also what lets you stop where you are standing instead of walking a quarter mile looking for cover.

100% medical grade silicone. Hypoallergenic, latex free, and hydrophobic, which is why it sheds liquid rather than holding it. GoGirl say one of these "can last a lifetime" — it is a buy-once item, not a disposable.

How it works. Hold it with your thumb and middle finger, thumb on the "up" indicator, and press it against yourself with light pressure to make a seal. It is a funnel, angled so that it directs away from your feet. GoGirl are clear that it is not a collection device — it does not hold anything. And face away from the wind.

Cleaning, in GoGirl's own words: "Soap and water works great but is optional. The antimicrobial and water resistant properties of the silicone funnel makes washing afterwards unnecessary. There will be minimal to no liquid left behind. Simply shake off or wipe any remaining liquid, roll up and place into storage container or plastic baggie." Wash it properly when you get home if you would rather — medical grade silicone takes wash after wash.

Practice first. We mean it, and so do they. GoGirl's own instructions list "Practice" as step one and "Confidence" as step two. Try it in the shower at home before you try it on an exposed ridge in a crosswind. It works, and it takes about two goes to get right.

Also worth knowing: GoGirl list it as helpful while recovering from an injury or a medical procedure, and post-partum — any time squatting is difficult. It is not only a camping product.
