A five-function survival tool: whistle, compass, signal mirror, flint striker and a waterproof compartment for matches or tinder.

The point of a combined tool is that it is one thing to remember. Five separate items in five pockets means four of them stay home.

At five dollars this is the thing you clip to a pack, a lifejacket, a kid's jacket and a glovebox, and hope never to need.

Not a substitute for a real compass or a real light. It is the backup that is always there.
