An aluminium carrying carabiner with a foam handle and an extra-wide 3 in. gate. Maximum load: 100 lb.

This is not really a carabiner, it is a handle. The wide gate swallows a fistful of bag handles, tote straps or stuff-sack loops at once, and the foam grip means the whole load hangs off your palm rather than cutting four separate lines into your fingers.

One trip from the truck to the campsite instead of three. Same at the supermarket, which is where most of these actually end up.

The 100 lb figure is Coghlan's own and it is a carrying rating — it describes what you can lift by hand, not what you can suspend overhead.

Not for climbing. Not for anything that holds a person. These are accessory clips. A certified climbing carabiner is rated to about 20 kN — roughly 4,500 lb — and carries that rating stamped on its spine. These are rated in tens of pounds. The gap is not a margin, it is two different objects that happen to look alike. Clip gear with them; never clip yourself, a hammock, a swing or a load above anyone.
