If you run a big lithium house bank and want it meaningfully recharged by the time you reach camp, this is the unit. At 70 amps the Orion XS 12/12-70A puts roughly 40% more into the battery per hour of driving than the 50A model, which on a 200Ah lithium bank is the difference between arriving topped up and arriving halfway.

Who needs 70 amps

Not everyone. A 70A charger asks a lot of your alternator and your cable run — you need wiring and fusing rated for it, and an alternator with the headroom to supply it alongside everything else the vehicle is running. It makes sense on a 200Ah-plus lithium bank, a rig with a serious fridge and inverter load, or short drives between camps where charging time is scarce.

If you are running a 100Ah battery and driving a few hours between stops, the 50A version does the job for less money and less wiring.

Setup and monitoring

VictronConnect over Bluetooth handles everything — battery chemistry, charge profile, and live monitoring of input current, output current, voltage and temperature. Adaptive multi-stage charging means the battery gets the right profile rather than a flat voltage.

Before you buy

Tell us your vehicle, your alternator output and your battery bank size and we will tell you whether 70A is right or whether you are better off at 50A or 30A. Oversizing a DC-DC charger for your wiring is a real way to cause trouble, and we would rather sell you the correct one.
