Two things separate XD from the standard HD awning, and both matter at camp:

• Integrated lights — run along the awning arms, so you are not clipping a lantern to something or working by headlamp while you cook.
• Blackout coating — the canopy fabric blocks light rather than glowing through it. Cooler underneath in real sun, and genuinely dark under the canopy, which matters if anyone is sleeping beneath it.

Choosing a side: the awning wraps toward the rear from whichever side it mounts on. Passenger side puts the canopy over the doors you use at camp. The driver-side version is listed separately.
