A Trangia windshield is sized for a 1 liter pot or larger. Put a small cup or a 0.5 liter Micro pot on it and the supports are too far apart. The pan stand drops inside the windshield onto the existing supports and gives a small vessel something to sit on.

It is also what turns a 25 or 27 into a stove you can heat a mug of water on without dirtying a pot.
