Air tools need oil down the inlet, and the reason most of them die is that nobody ever gives them any. The vanes in a rotary motor run dry, wear, lose power, and the tool that used to crack a lug nut stops doing it.

A few drops in the air inlet before each use is the whole maintenance routine. Four ounces will last an impact wrench years.

Relevant if you run an on-board air system off a compressor — the tools you bought to go with it want this, and it is a $9 part that protects a $200 one.
