It slides into a standard hitch receiver and gives you a proper rated recovery point at the rear of the vehicle — which most vehicles do not otherwise have. The rear is usually where a recovery has to pull from, and the tow ball is emphatically not the answer.

Never recover from a tow ball. It is not designed for shock loading and it fails by shearing off and travelling at speed. Every serious injury statistic in vehicle recovery has tow balls somewhere in it. This part exists to replace that habit.

The dual hole lets you set the shackle at the height that suits the pull.

Lay a recovery damper — a heavy blanket or purpose-made bag — over the line before any pull under load. If something lets go, it drops the line instead of letting it whip.
