An RDL spreads a single pull across two recovery points instead of one. Rig a strap or shackle to each front recovery point, join them at the link, and pull from the link — the load shares between both points rather than putting everything through one.

That matters on a hard recovery. A single point takes the full shock; two points take roughly half each, and the pull comes from the centreline of the vehicle rather than off to one side, so the stuck vehicle comes out straight instead of slewing.

Always pull from a rated recovery point. A tow ball, a bumper bracket or a factory tie-down loop is not one. Rated points are bolted to the frame and marked as such — if you are not sure what your vehicle has, find out before you need it, not while you are buried to the axles.

Lay a recovery damper — a heavy blanket or purpose-made bag — over the line before any pull under load. If something lets go, it drops the line instead of letting it whip.
