The Cantene is the one you take when you need the water capacity but not the bulk on the way home. It is a soft, multilayer-film carrier with a gusseted bottom so it stands up on its own when full, a wide opening you can fill from a tap or a jerry can, and a standard 63 mm loop-top cap — the same cap as your 32 oz wide mouth. Empty, it folds flat.

For overlanding that makes it the natural second container: one rigid bottle you drink from, and one of these for camp water that packs down to nothing once it is used.

What Nalgene does not publish, and why it matters here.

• The polymer. There is no material field on any of the three Cantene pages — only “a multilayered material for stiffness and strength” with the softness for collapsible storage. Older literature in the trade quotes a temperature range for it; that figure is not on Nalgene’s site today and we are not going to publish a number they have withdrawn.
• No freeze or boil rating. Nalgene’s boiling-water guidance covers their rigid Tritan bottles and their HDPE bottles. The Cantene is not mentioned in it, and neither rating carries across. Do not pour boiling water into a Cantene.
• Flat or filled dimensions? Nalgene gives one diameter and one height per size without saying which state they describe. The figures above are theirs, unlabeled.

And one thing we would rather you heard from us. Nalgene puts their Leak-Proof Guarantee on this product, and that guarantee is about the threads — “continuous, straight shouldered semi-buttress threads keep the bottle sealed tight.” A soft carrier’s weak point is not the threads, it is the seams, and the guarantee wording does not address them. We are passing the claim on as Nalgene’s claim rather than making it ourselves. Treat a Cantene as camp water storage, not as something to lay on top of a sleeping bag.

Lifetime guarantee

Nalgene covers functional damage — cracks, breaks, broken components from normal intended use — under a Lifetime Guarantee. It excludes cosmetic damage such as scratches, nicks and worn printing, excludes lost or stolen items, and excludes Epic filtration products, which Nalgene routes to Epic Water Filters. Nalgene also states that claims are subject to review and may be rejected. Claims go through Nalgene with a photo and proof of purchase; they ask for 14 to 21 days.
