A survival kit in a weather-resistant case: signalling, fire and emergency essentials rather than wound care.

First aid and survival are two different problems. First aid treats what already happened. A survival kit buys you the night — warmth, signal, fire — while you wait for daylight or for help.

Most people carry one and not the other. Carrying both is cheap and takes almost no room.

The sealed case matters here even more than it does for bandages: wet tinder and a soaked signal are no signal at all.
