A seasoning shaker the size of a large dice. Two chambers at 0.1 fluid ounces each, waterproof, with a filling screen. 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 inches of copolyester — it disappears into a corner of a pack.

It is the base module of GSI's spice system, so extra modules screw straight onto it if two spices turn out not to be enough. Salt and pepper, or any two spices you like.

One honest correction to the name: GSI publish no weight for either this or the standard Salt + Pepper Shaker, so we cannot tell you this one is lighter and we are not going to imply it. What is certain is that it is smaller — same footprint, about half the height, a quarter of the capacity. Buy it for the size, not for a weight saving nobody has measured.

How GSI's spice system fits together

All of GSI's spice containers use the same screw-together modules, so the pieces interchange. Our listings, smallest to largest:

• Ultralight Salt + Pepper Shaker — two chambers, 0.1 fl oz each. The base module.
• Salt + Pepper Shaker — two chambers, 0.3 and 0.5 fl oz. Four times the seasoning of the Ultralight, same footprint, taller.
• Spice Missile — six chambers at 0.1 fl oz. Three modules screwed together. The backpacking one.
• Spice Rocket — six chambers at 0.5 fl oz. Same design, five times the volume per chamber. The car-camping one.
• Spice Rack — six chambers (three at 0.3 and three at 0.5 fl oz) linked on a bandolier, plus 22 labels.

None of these grind. They are watertight containers with removable screens. The only grinder GSI make is the Peppermill, which we also carry.

Care

Hand wash with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly; avoid abrasive cleaners. GSI do not list any of this range as dishwasher safe.
