A real pepper mill small enough to live in a kitchen box. The grinding mechanism is stainless steel and GSI describe it as yielding “a perfect coarse grind to satisfy those with demanding tastes.” The body is copolyester — rugged enough, GSI say, to “last for several family trips to come.” Holds 0.8 fluid ounces, measures 1.4 x 1.4 x 3 inches, and comes with a dust cap.

This is the one that grinds. Everything else in GSI's spice line — the Missile, the Rocket, the Rack, the shakers — is a container with a shaker screen. If you want whole peppercorns ground at the table, this is the only one of them that will do it.

A note on materials: GSI's spec line for this product reads simply “Copolyester,” but their own description names a stainless steel grinding mechanism. Both are GSI's words. The body is plastic and the burr is steel.

How GSI's spice system fits together

All of GSI's spice containers use the same screw-together modules, so the pieces interchange. Our listings, smallest to largest:

• Ultralight Salt + Pepper Shaker — two chambers, 0.1 fl oz each. The base module.
• Salt + Pepper Shaker — two chambers, 0.3 and 0.5 fl oz. Four times the seasoning of the Ultralight, same footprint, taller.
• Spice Missile — six chambers at 0.1 fl oz. Three modules screwed together. The backpacking one.
• Spice Rocket — six chambers at 0.5 fl oz. Same design, five times the volume per chamber. The car-camping one.
• Spice Rack — six chambers (three at 0.3 and three at 0.5 fl oz) linked on a bandolier, plus 22 labels.

None of these grind. They are watertight containers with removable screens. The only grinder GSI make is the Peppermill, which we also carry.

Care

Hand wash with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly; avoid abrasive cleaners. GSI do not list any of this range as dishwasher safe.
