The carafe is BPA-free, lightweight and shatter-resistant, which is the whole argument for taking this one camping instead of the glass press from your kitchen. Glass and a truck bed do not mix.

A double-walled insulated lid and a ballistic nylon-wrapped cozy hold the temperature while it brews and while you serve. A press that goes cold in four minutes is why people give up on them outdoors.

The silicone ring plunger virtually eliminates "blow-by" — grounds escaping past the filter into your cup. That is the failure that makes cheap presses gritty.

Grind coarse. Fine grounds in a press go through the screen and keep extracting in the cup, which is how press coffee turns bitter.

Materials: stainless steel, co-polyester, polypropylene, EVA and rPET cloth.

Wash it with hot water and mild detergent before you use it the first time — GSI say so explicitly.

Hand wash. GSI warn that dishwashers may prematurely age the components. Nothing in this range is listed as dishwasher safe.
