Grind and brew in one pocket of the kitchen box. The grinder uses an adjustable conical ceramic burr — burrs, not blades, which is what keeps the grind even and the coffee from tasting burnt — and the alloy handle nests and locks for packing. The grounds fall into an integrated cup, so you are not chasing coffee around a table in the wind.

The dripper brews one to two cups and takes a #4 paper filter, then collapses to a disc an inch high and 5.6 inches across. Whole set is 6.3 x 2.8 x 8.5 inches and about 13 oz.

Two honest notes. First, GSI call this the Gourmet Pour Over Java Set; the distributor name on our invoice is “JavaGrind Pour Over Set,” and there is a separate GSI product called simply JavaGrind which is the grinder on its own. This listing is the set. Second, GSI publish no box-contents list for it, and nothing on their page says paper filters are included — the cone merely holds #4 filters. Budget for a pack. There is no mug or carafe in the set either.

Silicone, recycled polypropylene, copolyester, ceramic, nylon and steel. The cone needs a vessel with an opening at least 2.5 inches across — wide-mouth bottles and mugs, not a narrow flask. Not for stovetop or microwave use; you brew with water heated elsewhere.

Care

Hand wash with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly; avoid abrasive cleaners. GSI do not list any of their coffee gear as dishwasher safe, and several pages warn that dishwashers may age components early. Hand wash it.
