Real stovetop espresso in stainless rather than the aluminum everyone else uses. GSI rate it at 12 fl oz, which they describe as six double-shot servings of 2 fl oz each, and the handles fold so it packs flat. 4.6 x 4.4 x 8.5 inches, just under 2 lb. In the box: espresso body, carafe, folding handles, filter funnel and gasket.

The spec that sets it apart: GSI state plainly that it is “for use on gas, electric and induction stove tops.” Induction is the one almost no moka pot can claim, because the classic ones are aluminum and aluminum will not work on an induction hob. This one will — at home and in a van with an induction plate.

A moka-style brewer builds real steam pressure, and GSI's safety wording here is the strongest on any product they make. Do not use it if the safety valve or the threads leak. Never block, modify or tamper with the safety valve. Do not fill above the valve. Do not pack the coffee into the filter funnel. Check the funnel, filter plate, gasket and valve for damage or blockage before every use, and make sure every part is present and correctly assembled. Point the spout and the valve away from yourself and away from the stove controls while it brews. Let it cool before cleaning or disassembling, and never cool it quickly.

Use over low heat only. Not for microwave or campfire use — GSI are explicit about both.

One step people skip: wash every part in hot water before first use, then run it once with no coffee in it. That flushes out manufacturing debris and metal filings. GSI ask for it and it takes five minutes.

Care

Hand wash with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly; avoid abrasive cleaners. GSI do not list any of their coffee gear as dishwasher safe, and several pages warn that dishwashers may age components early. Hand wash it.
