GSI 5 ft Propane Adapter Hose — Run a Camp Stove Off a Refillable Tank
$34.95
A 5 ft braided stainless hose that replaces the disposable 1 lb bottle on a Type-1 propane appliance, connecting it to a refillable QCC1 tank of 5 to 20 lb.
Stop buying throwaway bottles. This is a 5 foot braided stainless steel hose with solid brass connectors and a QCC1 Type-1 fitting that connects a portable propane appliance to a full-size refillable tank. GSI put it plainly: “No need to buy throwaway 1lb canisters anymore.”
Exactly what connects to what
Tank end: a QCC1 / Type-1 refillable propane tank between 5 and 20 lb — the kind on a barbecue.
Appliance end: any propane appliance that normally takes a Type-1 (1 lb bottle) connection. In GSI's words, “can be used with all propane appliances that use Type 1 fuel canisters.”
The key thing people get backwards: this replaces the 1 lb bottle, it does not attach to one. The bottle comes off, the hose goes on, and the tank sits on the ground five feet away.
For a weekend you will not notice the difference. For a week in one spot, or a season of them, a refillable 20 lb tank is cheaper, lighter per hour of cooking, and does not leave you with a box of part-used bottles that are awkward to dispose of.
60 inches long. Includes the hose only — no fittings, adapters or wrench.
Safety
Inspect the hose and its fittings for wear before every use and do not use it if damaged. Use it only between a Type-1 propane appliance regulator and a QCC1 tank of 5 to 20 lb. Never modify it and never combine it with other adapters — GSI state that doing so risks severe injury or death. Check every joint with soapy water for bubbles before you light anything, and connect and disconnect outdoors only, well away from ignition sources.
Care
Wipe clean with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly; avoid abrasive cleaners. Inspect the braid and both end fittings for wear before every trip, and coil it loosely rather than kinking it for storage.
Which GSI stove takes which fuel
GSI's camp stoves split into three fuel families that do not interchange, and their own listings never lay this out in one place. Ours does:
- Threaded isobutane canister — the screw-on 110 g and 230 g canisters. Glacier Camp Stove, Glacier Canister-Top Stove, Glacier Remote Stove.
- Butane cartridge — Pinnacle Radiant, Selkirk 270.
- Propane — Pinnacle Pro 2-Burner, Selkirk 460+, Selkirk 540+.
Two adapters bridge between them: the Butane-Isobutane Adapter lets a butane cartridge feed an isobutane stove, and the 5 ft Propane Adapter Hose lets a Type-1 propane appliance run off a refillable 5–20 lb tank instead of disposable bottles. Both are listed separately.
