Twelve waxed tinder sticks that light wet and burn long enough to actually catch kindling.

This is the piece most people are missing. Plenty of campers carry a good fire starter and still cannot get a fire going, because sparks need something that will hold a flame for several minutes — not newspaper, which flares and dies.

A fire stick burns for a long time regardless of weather. Split one, feed the shavings to the spark, and build on it.

Five dollars, twelve fires. There is no reason not to have these in the truck.
