Coghlan’s Compact Mosquito Head Net
$7.99
220-hole mesh with its own stuff sack. The one that lives in a pocket.
A polyester mosquito head net that packs into an included stuff sack. One size fits all.
220 holes per square inch — standard mosquito protection.
The stuff sack is what you are paying for. A loose head net ends up as a tangled ball in the bottom of a pack and gets left behind; one in a sack gets clipped to a strap and comes with you. It also keeps grit out of the mesh, which is what eventually tears it.
Coghlan's says it works best worn over a brimmed hat, and they are right — without a brim the mesh touches your skin and anything with a proboscis can reach through it.
For midges rather than mosquitoes, go to the No-See-Um net instead.
How to read mesh density. Coghlan's states holes per square inch on every net, and it is the number that decides what gets through. Around 180 holes stops mosquitoes, which is all most people need. No-see-ums — biting midges, punkies, sand flies — are small enough to walk through standard mosquito mesh, and that is the entire reason the 1150 and 1600-hole products exist. If you have ever been bitten through a head net, this is why.
Coghlan's does not publish a permethrin or insecticide treatment for this product, so treat it as plain netting.
