GSI Enamel Bowl with Stainless Rim — 6 in., Blue
$8.50
The 6-inch enamel bowl with a steel rim on the edge that chips.
A 6 in. enamelware bowl with a stainless steel rim, in speckled blue.
What the stainless rim is for. GSI do not explain it on their own page, so here is the plain version: enamel is glass, and the edge is where glass chips. A rolled stainless steel rim puts metal on the part that takes the knocks. That is the difference between this and the plain enamel version, and it is why it costs a little more.
Enamelware is glass fused onto heavy-gauge steel. It is the oldest camp tableware there is and it is still around because nothing else looks better, cleans easier or survives longer. It will not melt near a fire, will not scratch from cutlery and does not hold flavours.
If this bowl is going to live loose in a camp box with cast iron and tent pegs, pay the extra dollar. If it lives in a padded crate, the plain enamel one is the same bowl.
Hand wash with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
